Join Our Team as a Registered Nurse – Labor and Delivery (Night Shift)

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse to join our Labor and Delivery team in Seattle, WA. Shift Information

  • Night Shift – 4 shifts per week, 12-hour shifts
  • Hours: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM

Requirements & Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a high acuity and high pace Labor and Delivery environment (if less than 2 years, manager review required)
  • Patient ratio experience: 1:1 to 1:2
  • Proficient in Epic charting system
  • Certifications required: ACLS, AWHONN Advanced Labor and Delivery, BLS, NRP
  • Hands-on skills in Labor and Delivery management including amnioinfusion, assisting with high risk and vaginal deliveries, circulating for C-sections, forceps/vacuum extraction, managing hemorrhage/shock, recovering C-Sections, and performing sterile vaginal exams
  • Medication administration experience with anticoagulation therapy, antihypertensives, insulin drips, magnesium sulfate therapy, Pitocin (oxytocin), and terbutaline
  • Neonatal care experience in delivery room including APGAR scoring, baby nursing (“baby catcher”), cord sample collection, ID/security banding, neonatal resuscitation, and radiant warmer management
  • Postpartum patient care expertise including bladder distension management, cesarean section and couplet care, care of multiple births, postpartum hemorrhage, pregnancy induced hypertension, and vaginal delivery care
  • Postpartum procedures such as breastfeeding and lactation support, episiotomy/incisional care, Foley catheter management, fundus/lochia/perineum care, electric/manual breast pump use, and wound assessment
  • Pain management proficiency including epidural and general anesthesia support, nitrous oxide administration (required), opioids, and comprehensive pain assessments
  • Experience working in high risk antepartum settings
  • Professional knowledge of isolation precautions and PPE use, vaccine administration
  • Newborn care skills including newborn assessment, hypoglycemia management, and thermoregulation
  • Fetal monitoring capabilities including recognition and treatment of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns and use of external fetal monitoring
  • IV therapy/phlebotomy skills including starting and maintaining IVs (required)
  • Antepartum care and procedures including triage of obstetrical patients (required)
  • Experience assisting in surgical procedures such as tubal ligation
  • No travel experience required

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to laboring women and their newborns in a high acuity Labor and Delivery setting
  • Manage and monitor patients during all phases of labor, assisting with high risk deliveries, vaginal deliveries, and cesarean sections
  • Administer medications accurately and monitor therapeutic effects and potential side effects, including critical therapies like magnesium sulfate and insulin drips
  • Perform newborn assessments, support neonatal resuscitation, and maintain thermoregulation standards in delivery room
  • Offer expert postpartum care to patients, addressing complications and supporting mother-infant bonding including breastfeeding guidance
  • Utilize fetal monitoring equipment and interpret fetal heart rate data to ensure fetal well-being
  • Maintain detailed, accurate documentation in Epic to support patient safety and regulatory compliance
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure smooth operation of the Labor and Delivery unit and optimal patient outcomes
  • Adhere strictly to infection control policies, isolation precautions, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Participate in ongoing education and professional development to maintain certifications and stay current with best practices

Qualifications

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Washington
  • At least 3 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience in high acuity, high pace environments
  • Active certifications: ACLS, AWHONN Advanced Labor and Delivery, BLS, NRP
  • Proficiency with Epic electronic medical records
  • Strong critical thinking and assessment skills in maternal and neonatal care
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively during night shifts with flexibility and professionalism
