Shift & Schedule
- Night Shift: 3x12 Hours
- Hours: 18:30 - 07:00
Requirements & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in respiratory therapy or neurodiagnostics
- Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NRP, PALS (Mandatory)
- Proficiency with Medication Delivery Systems, including aerosol set up (mask and trach), Medihaler, Metered Dose Inhaler (MDI)
- Medication Administration experience with drugs such as Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Flovent, Inhaled Flolan, Inhaled steroids, Isuprel, Lidocaine, Mucomyst, Nitric Oxide (INo), Perforomist, Pulmicort, Racemic epinephrine, Spiriva, Terbutaline Sulfate, Theophylline, Tobramycin, and Xopenex
- Neonatal and Pediatric equipment and procedure experience, including assisting in high-risk deliveries, CPAP/Nasal CPAP/BIPAP, oscillating ventilators, and umbilical blood gases
- Strong professional knowledge in basic EKG and arterial blood gas (ABG) interpretation
- Competence in ventilator management: BiPAP, CPAP, Flow-by, High frequency jet ventilators and oscillators, troubleshooting high pressure alarms, and weaning from mechanical ventilation
- Experience in caring for patients undergoing bronchoscopy
- Skilled in nebulizer treatments (cold, hand-held, heated, T-piece, trach collar, ultrasonic)
- Expertise in airway management devices and suctioning, including direct intubation, extubation, nasal and oral airway placement/suctioning, sputum specimen collection, and tracheostomy care and management
- Oxygen therapy delivery, specifically experience with High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
- Work experience within NICU, pediatric critical care, and pediatrics
- Additional knowledge of Non-Invasive Ventilation (NIV) / Neurally Adjusted Ventilatory Assist (NAVA)
- No travel required for this position
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advanced respiratory and neurodiagnostic care to neonatal, pediatric, and critical care patients in accordance with department protocols and standards
- Manage and operate a range of ventilators and respiratory equipment to support optimal patient outcomes
- Administer prescribed medications accurately using various delivery systems and monitor patient response
- Assist in high-risk neonatal deliveries ensuring readiness to provide emergent respiratory support
- Collect and analyze arterial blood gases (ABGs) and provide interpretation for the multidisciplinary care team
- Perform airway management procedures including intubation, extubation, suctioning, and tracheostomy care with precision and adherence to safety standards
- Implement and adjust oxygen therapy, including High Flow Nasal Cannula, to meet patient-specific needs
- Operate nebulizer therapy equipment and ensure effective aerosol medication delivery
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive patient care
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and reporting relevant to respiratory/neurodiagnostic assessments and interventions
- Participate in ongoing education, quality improvement initiatives, and protocol development to enhance departmental services
Qualifications
- Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, NRP, PALS
- At least 2 years of experience in respiratory therapy and neurodiagnostics, particularly within NICU and pediatric critical care settings
- Demonstrated expertise in ventilator management and medication administration as listed above
- Strong assessment and clinical decision-making skills related to pediatric and neonatal respiratory care
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills in multidisciplinary environments
- Ability to work night shifts (3x12 hour shifts) with reliability and professionalism
- Committed to maintaining patient safety and delivering high-quality care consistently
