Surgical Services Professional – Cardiovascular Operating Room Technician

We are actively seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Surgical Services Professional to join our team in Lubbock, TX, specializing in Cardiovascular Operating Room Technology (CVOR Tech). This is an exciting opportunity to advance your clinical career working with complex cardiovascular surgical cases in a dynamic, trauma-level II environment. Shift & Schedule

  • Day Shift: Monday to Friday, 6:45 AM – 3:00 PM (5 days per week, 8-hour shifts)

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in Cardiovascular Surgery, with 2 years consecutive in this specialty
  • Trauma Level II experience is required; Trauma Level I experience preferred
  • Experience working with a patient ratio of 1:4
  • Proficiency or preference for Epic charting system
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Travel experience required
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Certified Surgical Technologist (CST), National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) certified

Clinical & Technical Expertise

  • Vascular Procedures: Abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortobifemoral bypass, aortocaval and aortoenteric fistula repairs, arteriovenous fistula and malformation surgery, atherectomy, carotid angioplasty, stenting and endarterectomy, endovascular aneurysm repair, femoral popliteal bypass graft, laparoscopic assisted cases, renal artery bypass surgery, TEVAR, vein stripping
  • Cardiovascular Procedures: Angioplasty/stenting, aortic aneurysm repair, atherectomy, atrial septal defect repair, coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), endovascular aortic repair (EVAR), laparoscopic cardiac surgery, mitral valve replacement, pericardial window, transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR)
  • Professional Knowledge & Skills: Aseptic technique, instrument processing, isolation precautions and PPE, sharps safety, specimen handling and labeling, sterilization and disinfection, suture removal, adherence to Universal Protocol (time out) procedures
  • Equipment & Instrumentation: Care and handling of scopes and fiber optic equipment, case cart management, drills, electrosurgical units, fiber optic light sources and cords, high level disinfectant application
  • Work Environments: Cardiovascular OR, General OR, Hybrid OR, teaching hospital settings, trauma units
  • Emergency & Trauma Management: Fire safety, management of trauma cases including gunshot/stab wounds and multi-injury motor vehicle accidents
  • Transplant Experience: Kidney transplant procedures and organ donation processes required
  • Sterile Processing Knowledge: Understanding of decontamination, sterilization processes, and indicator use
  • Thoracic Surgery Experience: Laparoscopic assisted cases, lung resections (thoracotomy), mediastinoscopy, video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS)

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare operating rooms by assembling sterile instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary for cardiovascular surgeries and related procedures
  • Assist surgical teams during procedures by anticipating needs, handling instruments with aseptic technique, and ensuring patient safety protocols are followed
  • Ensure all surgical equipment is clean, processed, and maintained properly, following sterilization and disinfection standards
  • Provide support in complex vascular and cardiovascular cases, including transplant and trauma surgeries, maintaining adherence to protocols and emergency management practices
  • Maintain accurate documentation and patient charting in accordance with hospital and regulatory requirements, utilizing Epic system when applicable
  • Adhere to Universal Protocol including surgical time outs to verify correct patient, procedure, and site
  • Collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams in high-acuity clinical settings to deliver optimal patient care

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology program
  • Current BLS, CST, and NBSTSA certifications
  • Minimum 2 years consecutive experience specifically in cardiovascular surgical technology
  • Experience working under trauma level II conditions
  • Strong working knowledge of aseptic technique and surgical instrumentation specific to cardiovascular and vascular procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in teaching hospital and trauma settings
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required
  • Excellent communication, organization, and teamwork skills
